Tears flowed freely as the remains of the corps member who was shot by suspected cultists in Bayelsa State, James Onuh was laid to rest in his hometown, Benue State.
Hundreds of corps members led by the State Coordinator NYSC Bayelsa State, Anthony Ekeocha trooped out to pay their last respect to late James Onuh.
Before his death, James Onuh, the only child of his parents, was NYSC, Batch B corps member who was attached to the Bayelsa State Ministry of Works for his primary assignment, expecting to pass out in September.
Many of the corps members who were part of the burial event decried the absence of government officials during the evacuation of Onuh’s body.
The grieving corps members, who staged a protest against the attitude of the state government which they said did not show concern throughout the period blocked the road leading to the Government House.
But the Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (Rtd) and some government functionaries reportedly met with them at the Peace Park. They apologised to the corps members and assured the youths of their protection.
While speaking, the State Coordinator also disclosed that he has been assured by heads of security agencies in the state that investigations have commenced on the matter and the culprits would be fished out while assuring corps members of the commitment of the state government to their welfare and safety but advised them to be security conscious.
It will be recalled that the gunmen allegedly attacked and shot James close to his place of residence on June 2, 2016. He was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, where he passed away.
May his gentle soul rest in peace.
