Former Flying Eagles coach, Ladan Bosso,
has urged the Super Eagles to sharpen their attack against Swaziland in
the second leg of their 2018 World Cup qualifier in Port Harcourt on
Tuesday.
The first leg in Lobamba on Friday ended in a goalless draw.
Bosso, who blamed the pitch at the
Somhlolo Stadium in Lobamba for Nigeria’s inability to win the
encounter, urged the Eagles to play attacking football in Port Harcourt.
“Pitches in some African countries are very bad,” Bosso told our correspondent.
“It (the Somhlolo Stadium’s pitch)
really affected the way the Eagles played because most of the players
are overseas-based and are not used to such a bad pitch. But I expect
that to change in the second leg on Tuesday.
“The Eagles should attack better than
they did on Friday and ensure they do not leave their defence open for
long moments. Their defence was fair in the first leg but they need to
add bite to the attack.
“The Eagles must be careful not to
concede goals because it may come back to haunt them. When you score
goals, you have the confidence to control the game and have a big
advantage over your opponents.
“There are no longer minnows in African
football. But Swaziland should not be a stumbling block to Nigeria’s
target of playing at the World Cup. Our team must have learnt a lot from
the first leg and they should use that to wrap the second leg up and
make the group stages.”
