The Standards Organization of Nigeria in
Ekiti State has blacklisted 23 companies for manufacturing of fake and
substandard electrical products.
The agency said the companies failed
both the performance, safety, and parameter tests conducted by
Electrical and Electronics Laboratory Department.
The head of Ekiti Office, Mrs Sarah
Idowu, in a statement in Ado Ekiti gave names of the companies as
Everest Wire Limited; Odic Wire & Cable; Daily Star Nig; Rosa Wire
& Cable; System Best Limited and Smart Cable Limited.
Also named are Cable City Limited; Mack
Wire & Cable; Tomas Cable Nig; MNW Copper Plus; NSE Wire &
Cable; New City limited; Nucon Limited;and Kingsmart.

According to the statement, only one out
of the several companies whose products were examined passed the
various laboratory tests carried out by SON.
She gave the name of the only successful company as Nion Nigeria Wire and Cable.
The SON boss said releasing names of the
companies had become necessary so as to guide unsuspecting members of
the public against procuring fake and substandard products.
She said many of the products being
manufactured by the erring companies did not have size number while
their country of origin were not stated.
The statement directed those involved to
withdraw all their electrical items from the market and stop further
production of such substandard products.
She threatened that all those behind the
erring companies and their distributors would be made to face the
consequences if their activities persisted.
She warned recalcitrant ones that the
agency would henceforth confiscate such items wherever they may be found
while their owners would be made to pay a minimum of N1m cost of
evacuation and destruction to the Treasury Single Account to serve as
deterrent to others.
