Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State
has advised states in Nigeria to explore their comparative advantage,
especially in the area of agriculture, to transform the economy.
Ambode, who spoke during the visit of
his counterpart from Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, to the Lagos
House, Ikeja, on Tuesday said no state could survive on its own, hence
the need to partner states, which would enhance the economy and create
jobs.
He said, “We can create factories here
and use products from Kano for production. Kano can also stand like an
export zone for most of the West African countries around the zone. We
must start to think of how we can carry the vision of Nigeria forward.”
Ganduje said his visit was a meeting
between two mega cities in Nigeria, which would be used to discuss
problems and proffer solutions.
He said, “Kano State, being the
commercial nerve centre of Northern Nigeria, is striving to revive the
agricultural sector, especially in the areas of livestock farming.”
In a related development, Ambode on
Tuesday said the state government would explore areas of cooperation
with Microsoft International, especially in the area of improving
security in the state, as well as the justice sector reforms.
The governor spoke when the President of
Microsoft International, Mr. Jean-Philippe Courtois, paid him a
courtesy visit at the Lagos House, adding that his administration would
take advantage of the existing cooperation between the state government
and Microsoft to utilise technology to improve service delivery.
He said, “We are aware that technology
will drive us to the point where we really want – to make Lagos a
globally competitive city – and for Microsoft to partner us is a thing
of joy.”
Earlier, Courtois said his firm was keen
on improving the existing relationship with the state government and
opening up other areas for stronger cooperation.
