Bayelsa APC ward chairmen protest in Abuja
Ward chairmen from the Bayelsa State
chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Wednesday stormed the
party’s national secretariat in Abuja to protest the political
appointments of some Bayelsa indigenes.
Specifically, the chairmen demanded the reversal of the appointments, saying they were done in bad faith.
The protesters who were seen carrying
placards with various inscriptions such as “Lokpobiri must go,”
“Lokpobiri says APC is Boko Haram,” “Bayelsa APC says in Tiwei we
trust,” among others, were, however, restricted from entering the
secretariat by armed policemen.
The ward chairmen, who were led by Mr.
Jephthah Iyekuruwe, also asked the former Bayelsa State Governor,
Timipre Sylva not to retire from politics with the political
appointments meant for the APC members in the state.
Addressing newsmen, Iyekuruwe said, “We are not here to fight our leader, the APC governorship candidate in Bayelsa State.
“Five executive chances were given to
the APC in Bayelsa State in order to strengthen the party because for
now, we don’t have a governor to take care of the party and by the
special grace of God, the Presidency through the national secretariat,
gave these five executive chances to Bayelsa State. But at the end of
the day our candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva, cornered all of them and
sent five names without consulting the state executive led by Chief
Timipa Tiwe.”
