EEC win NNPC/Shell Cup

Excel Education Centre, Port Harcourt on Thursday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, emerged winners of the 18th NNPC/Shell Cup with a 3-2 victory over Fosla Academy, Abuja.
The total prize money for the event is N8.2m: N3.5m for the winners, N2.3m for the runners-up, N1.3m for the third-placed team and N1.1m for the 4th team.
Kelvin Amadi of Excel and Joseph Ejeh of Fosla were selected by the coaching crew of Feyenoord Academy, as the two best players of the 2016 tournament and would be sponsored for a training tour to The Netherlands.
Excel’s Joseph Tari opened score in the 13th minute but their fans’ celebration was short-lived as Solomon Abraham grabbed an equaliser for Fosla a minute later. Jacob Bamaiyi then put Excel in front again in the 33rd minute.
Tari made it 3-1 for Excel before Abraham scored from the penalty spot to make score 3-2 but it was too little too late as the Excel fans celebrated a hard-fought victory.
Earlier, Government Science Secondary School, Bauchi, defeated Asegun Comprehensive High School, Ibadan, 4-3 in an entertaining third-place match.
The Managing Director, Shell Petroleum Development Company and Country Chair, Shell Companies in Nigeria, Mr. Osagie Okunbor; commended the players for exhibiting spirit of sportsmanship
