Action will commence this morning at the
Tennis Courts of the National Stadium, Lagos as the Central Bank of
Nigeria Tennis Championship serves off. The men’s singles chart of 64
and the women’s singles draws of 32 players plus men’s and women’s
doubles events are the main focus.
Over 25 matches are listed for Monday
and some of the top-ranked players to play in the event are the men’s
defending champion, Thomas Otu, Michael Moses, Christian Paul,
Abdulmumuni Babalola, Clifford Enosoregbe, Henry Atseye and Sunday
Emmanuel.
In the women category, there is the
national number one, Christy Agugbom, Russian based Melissa Ifidzhen who
is the women’s singles defending champion, Aanu Aiyegbusi, Sarah
Adegoke and Blessing Samuel.
More than N14m has been set aside as
prize money and the wheelchair players are not left out of the jackpot
as they have been listed to compete for honours also.
CBN officials has re-affirmed their
commitment to develop and support tennis in Nigeria, hence the continual
sponsorship of the CBN Senior Open tournament and the Junior CBN
Developmental Tennis Championship.
The tournament which runs from June 16 to 25, holds from 9am to 6pm daily.
