Premier League side, Crystal Palace has axed former Arsenal stars, Emmanuel Adebayor and Marouane Chamakh, casting the duo back into the footballing wilderness.
According to The Sun UK, “the Eagles are sweeping out the deadweights at Selhurst Park after a poor end to the season in which they lost the FA Cup final to Manchester United and managed just 11 points from their last 16 games – with only relegated Aston Villa fairing worse.
“And former Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester City striker Edebayor has been told he has no future at the club after rotting in Spurs’ reserves for much of last season before being released by chairman, Daniel Levy.
“Former Gunners forward Marouane Chamakh is another that has been released after his horror run of injuries in South-East London.”
The tabloid reports further that Brede Hangeland, Adrian Mariappa, Paddy McCarthy and Chris Kettings are the other players that manager, Alan Pardew has decided will not be part of Palace’s future.
Adebayor signed an initial six-month deal in January with Pardew saying that he would be open to an extension should Adebayor impress but the Togolese hit-man managed just one goal in 15 appearances and was left on the bench by the manager as the Eagles went down to United at Wembley last month.
Chamakh is another forward that struggled, but that was largely due to his injury troubles.
A thigh tear caused him to miss 17 games last season and he managed just 10 goals in 66 appearances overall, despite beginning to show glimpses of the promise that convinced Gunners boss Arsene Wenger to originally bring him to the Premier League.
Jamaica defender Mariappa has struggled for game time under Pardew and is another that is released, with his last appearance coming as a sub in the FA Cup final.
Former Fulham centre-back Hangeland also spent too much time on the treatment table, with the Norwegian international managing just 26 outings in two season.
